Tobacco Free Campus

Since October of 2010, Ouachita has been a tobacco free campus.  The goal of a tobacco free campus is to provide a healthier, cleaner environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The Arkansas Department of Health offers three different avenues to help an individual become tobacco free:

A tobacco user may enroll in the program by calling 1-800-784-8669.

By clicking here, the tobacco user enters the phone number where they would like to be contacted. Click “Submit” and the participant’s phone will ring immediately and be connected with the Arkansas Tobacco HOT-LINE.

Employees may visit the Health Services office on campus located in Evans Student Center, Room 210, to request a referral form be faxed on their behalf. An operator will call within three days of receiving the fax at a time pre-selected by the tobacco user. The Quit Coach works with the patient to create a tailored quit plan.

All three programs provide a trained Quit Coach® upon registering in the tobacco-quitting services provided. Quit Coaches are professionally trained to help tobacco users fight their addiction. They are prepared to help tobacco users:

  • Prepare to quit
  • Choose a quit day
  • Change their routines
  • Cope with withdrawal
  • Fight slips and relapses

In addition to unlimited web coaching and personalized phone sessions, callers will also receive free quit guides and their choice of free medications mailed directly to their homes, while supplies last.

The Quitline is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day and services are available in English or Spanish.

  •  Online cessation tool provided by the American Legacy Foundation.  The program encourages smokers to approach quitting smoking as “re-learning life without cigarettes”.  The web site features action-oriented tools and information to help smokers prepare for quitting.  Smokers can share stories and best practices about their quit attempts.
  • Freedom from Smoking Online:  Freedom from Smoking® Online is a program specifically designed for adults who want to quit smoking.  The program takes users through several lessons first, ensuring that solid information about preparing to quit is given before Quit Day.  The FFS Online can be accessed day or night, seven days a week on any schedule.
